Due to COVID-19 and many restrictions, many council and parishes have cancelled plans to attend the national march in Washington DC. We are encouraging local events. As our Life Director has stated, march around your town, your block or even your own house. No matter what, keep the vision that all life, at any stage and age, is sacred.
The Knights of Columbus encourages others to choose life through public support of the pro-life cause. Knights can organize and participate in local/state/province/ regional marches for life and/or organize participation of Knights/parishioners/students/etc., in bus trips to the national marches in Washington, D.C., Ottawa, Mexico City, throughout the Philippines, or in other countries, showing unwavering public support for the right to life.
The Pennsylvania State Council Life Team is suggesting that each Council discuss and start planning this program “now” to make sure that the March on Washington DC in January will be the most successful ever. If the Council cannot attend, they should plan a local prayer service for those travelling to the march, or some other type of local awareness of the pro-life cause. Grand Knights should have already held a meeting with their Life Directors to discuss plans for either a trip to the March, or some other local event. Go to marchforlife.org for more March information. For more details on how to conduct and obtain support materials, go to the supreme website at: www.kofc.org/en/programs/life/marches-for-life.
The goal of each Council is to get others in the parish and community involved and aware of our commitment to defending the right to life of every human being from the moment of conception to natural death.
Marches for life is a featured program which counts for two credits toward the Columbian award.
Councils can earn two program credits towards the Columbian Award through the March for Life program by organizing 25 participants in any of the events listed below (or similar state/local events). One program credit is earned for less than 25 participants (members and non-members). Councils can measure participation by hosting a virtual watch party and counting participants (for example) or by promoting an event and asking members to inform the council of their individual/family’s participation.
To receive program credit, please submit your council’s participation through the online Fraternal Programs Report Form (#10784) (after the event) and the online Columbian Award Application (#SP-7) (by June 30).
For more information and guidance on how to promote and run your own virtual event, please review the Remote Programming Supplement resource.
